Sultan Nazrin urges action on Islamic council resolutions

Sultan Nazrin Shah calls for earnest government follow-up on MKI resolutions to benefit the people and enhance respect for Islam.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Nazrin Shah has decreed that federal and state governments must earnestly implement follow-up actions on all resolutions from the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI).

The Sultan of Perak, who chairs the MKI, stated that responsible agencies must pay close attention to the council’s conclusions to give meaningful value to its role.

He emphasised that resolutions must be valued so MKI is not seen merely as a forum for discussion with recommendations left hanging.

“During the two-year period I was entrusted to chair MKI, various matters have been discussed and considered to achieve understanding and consensus,” Sultan Nazrin decreed.

He added that these conclusions have been presented to the Conference of Rulers.

“What is more important is the follow-up action on all suggestions and conclusions, so that they do not remain as written documents destined to be buried under piles of paper.”

The ruler delivered this address at the opening ceremony of the 74th MKI meeting in the capital.

“When resolutions and conclusions are followed through and implemented earnestly, they will directly benefit the people while projecting a positive image of the government,” he said.

Sultan Nazrin added that such implementation enhances respect, understanding, and appreciation for Islam among both Muslims and non-Muslims.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the ceremony alongside religious affairs officials.

The 74th meeting is the third chaired by Sultan Nazrin since his appointment by the Conference of Rulers began in March 2024.

He noted his efforts to fulfill his role with assistance from MKI members, secretariat staff, and five specialised committees.

His Royal Highness expressed appreciation to all members and staff for their contributions.

Sultan Nazrin also thanked former religious affairs minister Datuk Dr. Mohd Na’im Mokhtar for his service as an MKI member.

The meeting recorded congratulations to the new Minister, Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, and his deputy, Marhamah Rosli, welcoming them as MKI members. – Bernama
