MAKNA founder and former deputy health minister Mohd Farid Ariffin dies

Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin, founder of the National Cancer Council (MAKNA) and former deputy health minister, has passed away at the age of 84.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin, founder of the National Cancer Council (MAKNA) and former deputy health minister, has died at the age of 84.

His passing was confirmed by MAKNA in a statement posted on Facebook yesterday.

The organisation said his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication had transformed many lives and strengthened the nation’s fight against cancer.

“His legacy and commitment will continue to inspire us at MAKNA,” the statement read.

It added, “May Allah SWT forgive his sins, bestow abundant mercy upon him, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and give patience and strength to his family.”

According to his daughter, Farahida, Mohd Farid died at 5.38 pm yesterday.

His remains will be bathed and prayers performed at Masjid Kariah Labu Hilir in Negeri Sembilan this morning.

The burial is scheduled for around 11 am.

A native of Kuala Nerang, Kedah, Mohd Farid served as deputy health minister from 1989 to 1995.

He founded MAKNA in 1994 to raise public awareness about cancer.

The organisation provides comprehensive support, including financial and emotional assistance, to cancer patients, particularly the underprivileged.
