UMNO president’s speech at the 2025 assembly will outline the party’s direction, GE16 preparations, and focus on Malay, Islamic interests.
KUALA LUMPUR: The policy speech by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the 2025 UMNO General Assembly is expected to outline the party’s strategic direction and its preparations for the 16th General Election.
Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhamad Rafii said the address will also focus on readiness for upcoming state elections in Melaka and Johor.
He stated the assembly’s priority is to deliberate on the interests of the Malays, Islam, and the Malay Rulers.

“The most important thing is that we will seek common ground to reunite the Malay struggle under UMNO,” Mohd Razlan told Bernama.
He added that views from the assembly debates will be studied and presented to the party’s top leadership for future guidance.
The political secretary stressed UMNO will continue its role as a balancing force within the Unity Government.
He emphasised this is particularly regarding policies that involve Malay interests.
“As long as UMNO remains part of the government, we will continue to defend the interests of the Malays,” Mohd Razlan affirmed.
He made this statement despite views questioning UMNO’s role as a minority party within the current ruling coalition.
The 2025 UMNO General Assembly is being held at the World Trade Centre from January 14 to 17.
It was postponed twice in August and November to let the party focus on the Sabah state election.
A total of 6,412 delegates have registered for the main assembly and its wings.
The assembly officially begins tomorrow with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by the president’s policy speech and debate sessions. – Bernama
