Deputy works minister urges on-time completion of RM129 million MIROS lab

Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan calls for the RM129.4 million MIROS testing lab project to be completed on schedule by June 2029.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan has called for the RM129.4 million Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) testing laboratory and complex project to be completed on schedule or earlier.

He said the 178-week project, which began on Jan 7 and is due for completion on June 5, 2029, should be implemented without compromising standards.

This must align with the Zero Sick Projects and Ahead of Time (AOT) principles of the Works Ministry and the Public Works Department.

Ahmad said both aspects demonstrated the ministry’s emphasis not only on adherence to schedules and standards, but also on effective project management for the benefit of the people.

“If project and financial management are implemented properly, projects will not be delayed and will not be categorised as sick projects,” he told reporters after the handover of the Letter of Acceptance to MTD Construction Sdn Bhd.

“The ministry’s target is zero sick projects.”

Ahmad also stressed that contractors awarded the Letter of Acceptance must give full commitment to quality, and comply with specifications, cost, timeline and safety requirements.

He said most project delays in the past were due to poor project and financial management, and urged the contractors to focus on both areas.

The MIROS Complex project involves the construction of a testing laboratory building, an administrative building, support blocks and related facilities.

These will support road safety research and testing functions.

Upon completion, the facility will further strengthen MIROS’ role as a national and regional reference centre for road safety research.

It will also enhance the institute’s operational efficiency in conducting research and training programmes in a more systematic, safe and high-impact manner. – Bernama
