Minister Fahmi Fadzil announces enhanced coordination of government communication to ensure policies and aid are conveyed clearly and accessibly.
CYBERJAYA: The Ministry of Communications will intensify efforts to strengthen government messaging to ensure policies, programmes, and assistance are conveyed clearly and accurately.
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said coordination of the government communication machinery has been enhanced, involving information officers and corporate communications units across all ministries.
“Sometimes, if we have a product or service but the target group is not aware of its existence, that is where the communication problem arises,” he stated.
He emphasised that clarity is crucial for targeted aid programmes like Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and schooling assistance.
Fahmi stressed the use of simple, approachable language suited to local contexts rather than just formal “Putrajaya language”.
His instruction is for language to be grounded in reality, with delivery adapted for different communities and states.
This follows the Chief Secretary to the Government’s recent stress on enhancing communication so initiatives are fully understood by the public.
Fahmi also hopes to activate the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) as a strategic training centre for government communicators.
He said this would help manage communication issues raised by the Prime Minister swiftly and comprehensively.
A study found youths aged 18 to 35 are the largest group consuming information through social media like Facebook and TikTok.
This group constitutes almost half of voters and is a main user of domestic products and services.
The government machinery is reminded to be better prepared and not rely on old approaches or merely resharing content.
The use of the WhatsApp audio feature was suggested as an effective method to reach communities less inclined to read.
