An immigration officer at KLIA Terminal 1 was found guilty of entering a passenger’s details without their presence, a serious breach of protocol.
PUTRAJAYA: An immigration officer has been confirmed as involved in a ‘flying passport’ activity at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) stated the incident occurred on June 2 last year.
The officer was found to have keyed a passenger’s entry details and passport information into the immigration system without the passenger being present at the counter.
This action violated the Malaysian Immigration Department’s Quality Management System guidelines.
It also contravened a specific directive issued by the Director-General of Immigration.
The EAIC classified the officer’s actions as misconduct under the relevant enforcement act.
The commission has referred the officer to the Immigration Department’s Disciplinary Authority.
It recommended disciplinary action for dishonest and untrustworthy conduct.
A further recommendation was made for action due to irresponsible behaviour under public officer regulations.
