Malaysia takes firm stand on Venezuela, Greenland and Iran ties

PM Anwar says Malaysia rejects US actions on Venezuela and any conquest of Greenland, while maintaining diplomatic ties with Iran.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has taken a firm position on Venezuela in defence of international law and rejects any attempt to conquer Greenland.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the country’s stance on Venezuela is guided by principle rather than power.

“We have urged the US to return President Maduro and his wife to Venezuela,” he said in Parliament.

Anwar said Malaysia continues its relationship with the US but will speak out against actions violating international law.

On Greenland, Anwar said Malaysia aligns with the EU and Denmark in prioritising negotiations.

“As a free and sovereign nation, we cannot agree with the conquest of any country,” he stated.

Regarding Iran, Anwar said Malaysia maintains diplomatic relations while managing ties prudently.

He stressed that Malaysia upholds Iran’s rights and sovereignty as a matter of principle.

“We must not appear weak, but neither should we take actions that jeopardise national interests,” he added. – Bernama
