Police rule out third party in Sri Aman couple murder case

Police find no evidence of third-party involvement in Sri Aman couple’s death, citing only victims’ DNA on weapon and no signs of robbery.

KUCHING: Police investigations have found no evidence of third-party involvement in the killing of a married couple in Sri Aman earlier this month.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the case investigation is complete, with the examination of the weapon used revealing only the DNA of the two victims.

“We also did not find any signs of a break-in or missing valuables, nor evidence that they were robbed,” he told reporters after attending a monthly assembly.

He said statements have been recorded from 30 witnesses, including family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Police have also received chemical and pathology reports from the post-mortem examinations.

Mohamad Zainal said he is confident no further investigation is required, but the case cannot yet be classified as no further action as police await forensic reports on the victims’ mobile phones.

“Witness statements also found that the male victim, after being transferred to a new school as headmaster, had experienced depression,” he said.

He added that the phone reports may help determine the motive for the incident.

On Jan 14, a headmaster and his wife were found dead with serious injuries at their home on Jalan Brayun.

Post-mortem results showed the husband sustained 11 injuries from a sharp object to the neck and chest, while the wife suffered a stab wound to the neck.
