International partnerships vital for healthcare innovation – Zambry

Higher Education Minister says Malaysia-South Korea collaborations in healthcare tech are vital for a competitive workforce and translating research into clinical practice.

SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Higher Education is committed to fostering strategic international partnerships to advance healthcare innovation. Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir emphasised the importance of Malaysia-South Korea collaborations in technology, research, and industry links.

He stated the goal is to build a future-ready workforce and ensure Malaysian institutions lead in emerging technologies. “Such collaborations not only elevate our research capacity but also strengthen Malaysia’s research ecosystem,” Zambry said at the launch of the Robotic Exoskeleton Angel Legs M20 at Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah.

The robotic exoskeleton is a product of Universiti Teknologi MARA’s partnership with South Korean firm Angel Robotics. Zambry described the device as a transformative, patient-centred technology that enhances mobility and accelerates rehabilitation.

He said it exemplifies how cutting-edge robotics can revolutionise clinical care. The partnership also facilitates essential technology transfer and training for staff and students.

UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the launch marks a significant leap in rehabilitation services. He noted it reinforces the hospital’s role as a high-technology rehabilitation referral centre.

The initiative supports UiTM’s aspiration for globally benchmarked hospital services driven by innovation. Integrating this technology into patient care will position UiTM at the forefront of scholarly knowledge, he added.
