E9X Bimmers Malaysia sees 25% rise in turnout at Mega Gathering 3.0

E9X Bimmers Malaysia recently drew close to 300 BMW vehicles and an estimated 500 participants and visitors to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) for the Mega Gathering 3.0, the third edition of its annual flagship event. The turnout represents a clear increase over last year’s gathering, which recorded 240 vehicles.

Event chairman and E9X Bimmers Malaysia president Abdul Muda, also known as Mud CentRoy, said this year’s edition reached a wider audience than before, extending beyond local boundaries to welcome participation from international motoring groups.

Abdul said the move to PICC gave the gathering a grander feel. He also acknowledged the backing of Datuk Azman Abidin, the Prime Minister’s political secretary, which he described as evidence of growing institutional support for the local automotive community.

Open to other BMW models

The E9X name refers to the E90, E91, E92 and E93, the body-style codes of one generation of the BMW 3 Series, which was produced from 2004 until 2013. E9X Bimmers Malaysia is a community built around these cars, and the Mega Gathering is its flagship annual event.

Although the gathering is centred on the E9X generation, organisers extended the invitation to other BMW models as well. Non-E9X cars accounted for an estimated 120 to 130 vehicles, or roughly two-fifths of the total turnout. Working from the figure of nearly 300 vehicles in total, that would put E9X cars at roughly 170 to 180.

Overseas and regional participation

A highlight of this year’s gathering was the debut participation of Bimmer Singapore, which sent a delegation of more than 10 vehicles. The group joined owners who travelled from across Peninsular Malaysia, including the Northern, Southern and East Coast regions. Together with local E9X owners and other BMW enthusiasts, they filled the registration slots available.

For this edition, organisers upgraded the venue to PICC. Space constraints there still limited registration to 300 vehicles, and the gathering reached that cap. Even so, demand stayed strong, with nearly 100 hopeful applicants turned away.

Looking ahead, Abdul said he hopes future organising committees would be able to secure a larger location to accommodate the growing community.

Abdul credited the event’s success and sustainability to corporate sponsors, vendors, committee members and participants.

“Relying solely on entry fee collection is never enough to cover an event of this scale. It is the presence and commitment of our supporters and sponsors that make it possible.”

The pattern of sponsor support was also evident at the previous edition. According to theSun’s previous coverage of the second gathering, organisational costs of about RM25,000 were covered by sponsors and participant fees, with Abdul’s own company, CentRoy Bimmers, contributing RM7,000.

How the gathering has grown

The second edition took place on Sept 27, 2025 at Presint 4 in Putrajaya. Figures cited for this year’s comparison put the turnout at 240 vehicles, while theSun reported at the time that the event drew 220 registered cars and another 50 unregistered vehicles.

A highlight of this year’s gathering was the debut participation of Bimmer Singapore, which sent a delegation of more than 10 vehicles.

That gathering ran from 5pm to 11pm and featured vehicle showcases, vendor stalls, competitions across 19 categories and a series of lucky draws. Enthusiasts of the BMW E90 series displayed customised cars and competed in those categories, according to the report.

Securing the venue was not straightforward at that stage. Abdul told theSun that approval to host the event in Putrajaya was a drawn-out process, with clearance granted only days before the gathering. He said he kept going because he did not want the community to miss out, and that his hope is for E9X to become one of the strongest and most recognised BMW groups in Malaysia.

At the close of that event, the organisers said they would return with the Mega Gathering 3.0 in 2026, a commitment that has now been fulfilled at PICC.

Abdul pointed to the track record from the first to the third edition as evidence of consistent growth. Attendance rose from 240 vehicles last year to nearly 300 this year, a 25% increase.

He said with proper promotion and a larger venue, participation could reach as many as 500 cars in the next edition, adding that close collaboration between organisers, participants and sponsors remains the key driver of success.
