Selangor plans for JAIS schools as Year One entry age drops

Selangor is developing a framework for JAIS-managed religious schools to adapt to the new policy of starting Year One at age six from next year.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government is planning measures for schools managed by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) in response to the early entry into Year One at the age of six starting next year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said JAIS is preparing a framework to ensure the policy’s effective implementation in its religious schools.

“The JAIS Education Division will submit their proposal, and I am confident that we will have a clearer direction,” he told a press conference after launching the Sustainable Development Goals Voluntary Local Reviews.

Amirudin, who chairs the State Education and Human Capital Committee, said he plans to hold a retreat during Ramadan with all state education stakeholders.

“This will include JAIS, the State Education Department, universities, and others,” he said.

He added that the goal is to explore how each entity can build strong, mutually beneficial relationships.

Amirudin said he has already met with the State Education Department to gather details on the policy’s implementation.

“We have talked with the education department about how this policy may affect schools, and we will make the necessary changes,” he added.

He identified the school schedule and teacher availability as key areas for adaptation.

“The main concern will be having enough teachers,” Amirudin stated.
