STM Lottery launches its 39th Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign, allocating RM1.53 million to benefit nearly 19,680 underprivileged senior citizens nationwide.
KUALA LUMPUR: STM Lottery Sdn Bhd officially launched its 39th Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign at Berjaya Times Square here yesterday, reaffirming its commitment to caring for underprivileged senior citizens across Malaysia.
The campaign was officiated by Finance Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong, in the presence of Sports Toto Bhd chairman Datuk Sri Robin Tan, its CEO Nerine Tan and STM Lottery executive director John Cheong.
The launch ceremony was attended by more than 3,000 senior citizens, including residents from four senior citizen homes in Kuala Lumpur.
Each senior citizen received an ang pow, a festive mini hamper and mandarin oranges, symbolising health, happiness and prosperity for the new year.
“However, beyond the hampers and ang pow, what truly matters is the spirit behind this campaign, which is a spirit of compassion, gratitude and community,” Robin said in his welcome speech.
“It is about remembering those who have paved the way for us, acknowledging their contributions and ensuring they too feel the warmth and joy of Chinese New Year.
“Through our Helping Hands initiative, we remain committed to creating meaningful and lasting impact not only during festive seasons, but also throughout the year through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes that support education, community welfare, environmental conservation and other areas of social development,” he added.
Through its Helping Hands programme, STM Lottery has allocated RM1.53 million towards the six-day donation campaign, which will benefit about 19,680 underprivileged senior citizens across 50 cities and towns nationwide.
STM Lottery also extended gratitude to Berjaya Times Square for serving as the venue sponsor, as well as to its dedicated employees and Toto agents whose collective efforts made the campaign possible.
Since its inception in 1988, the long-running charitable initiative has benefitted more than 494,230 underprivileged senior citizens nationwide, with total contributions exceeding RM28.45 million.
The Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign forms part of STM Lottery’s Helping Hands programme, which supports its CSR and environmental, social and governance commitments.
Through the initiative, the company continues to promote compassion, social sustainability and community wellbeing.
As the festive season approaches, STM Lottery remains committed to spreading warmth and goodwill, ensuring senior citizens across the country can celebrate Chinese New Year with dignity, joy and peace of mind.
