A total of 67.9% of companies in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan have received benefits from the expanded SKDS for jeep and pickup categories
SANDAKAN: A total of 67.9 per cent of companies registered under the new sector expansion of the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) for the jeep and pickup categories are from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
He said the total comprised 10,453 companies with 18,538 vehicles registered in the three regions.
Armizan said the figure was part of the 15,388 companies involving 25,781 vehicles registered under the category nationwide since the expansion opened on July 3.
“The expansion of eligibility to the new sector is among the main improvements in the implementation of SKDS which has received a positive response, showing that most of the beneficiary companies are registered in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
“This initiative allows sole proprietorships and partnerships that use jeeps and pickups registered under the company’s private use class to enjoy a RM300 diesel subsidy through the SKDS mechanism,” he told reporters after the SKDS fleet card handover ceremony to 15 companies in conjunction with the Jom Malaysia Festival here today.
Armizan said the other two sectors under SKDS are public land transport and land transport for consumer goods, with companies that have received SKDS approval being able to obtain fleet cards from oil companies for the purpose of purchasing subsidised diesel.
He said his ministry also urged companies that meet the eligibility requirements, but are not yet registered under SKDS, to immediately submit applications via the MySubsidi portal.
Armizan explained that his ministry is only responsible for regulating the distribution of diesel subsidies for 35 types of commercial vehicles, while the individual category through Budi Diesel and Budi Agri-Komoditi are regulated by the Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, Armizan asked Sabah representatives to channel any views or suggestions regarding the standardization of the eligibility conditions for diesel and petrol subsidies for categories that do not involve commercial vehicles to the Sabah State Secretary.
“We are aware that several matters have been raised by the representatives in Sandakan such as the standardization of subsidy conditions for individuals and households involving Budi95 petrol and Budi Diesel, the request (so that) the same conditions are used by citizens and only those with a driving license.
“In addition, the recommendation (so that the issue regarding) vehicle registration in the name of individuals as determined by the Ministry of Finance can also be channeled through the existing coordination platform between the Sabah, Sarawak and relevant ministries at federal level,” he said.
Armizan said his ministry would continue to work closely with the Ministry of Finance, the Sabah and Sarawak State Governments, oil companies and all stakeholders to ensure that SKDS continues to be strengthened from time to time.
