E-hailing licence fees now more flexible, says transport ministry

E-hailing vehicle owners can now renew licences from one month to one year, with fees capped, as part of new flexible MOT rules.

KUALA LUMPUR: E-hailing service vehicles now benefit from more flexible Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) fee structures.

The Ministry of Transport announced that owners can renew their LKM for a period ranging from one month to a maximum of one year.

A key change ensures the cumulative fee for renewals between one and five months will not exceed the standard six-month LKM rate.

Renewals remain subject to the validity of the vehicle permit, a valid inspection report, and active insurance coverage.

“This measure offers greater convenience to e-hailing operators and streamlines regulatory compliance,” the ministry stated.

It added that the initiative reflects the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, prioritising efficient governance and public well-being.

In a separate announcement, the ministry revealed an RM10 million allocation to help owners of vehicles over 20 years old.

The Old Vehicle Replacement Matching Grant Programme aims to assist 5,000 people transition to newer, safer models.

Eligible recipients will receive a government grant of up to RM2,000, matched by participating local vehicle manufacturers.

The process requires deregistering the old vehicle online and disposing of it at an authorised facility.

The ministry said the programme aims to improve road safety, reduce accident risks, and safeguard public well-being. – Bernama
