KUSKOP’s inaugural Thaipusam booth offers grants info, health checks and a rest area, supported by 200 multiracial ‘Wira KUSKOP’ volunteers.
GEORGE TOWN: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has set up its first-ever dedicated booth at the Penang Thaipusam celebration.
Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the booth provides information on ministry programmes, grants and financing funds. It also offers a rest area with food, beverages and health screening services for the public.
“This place is suitable for everyone at the Thaipusam celebration site in Penang, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities and mothers with young children,” he said.
Sim inspected the booth near the Ayira Vaisiyar Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. He said the initiative involves about 200 multiracial ‘Wira KUSKOP’ volunteers assisting with logistics, traffic and welfare.
The booth is expected to receive between 1,000 and 2,000 visitors. It will also cater to youths seeking information on entrepreneurship assistance.
Sim announced an allocation of RM100,000 to Thaneermalai Shree Balathandayuthapani Devasthanam to support the historic temple’s activities. He noted this year marks the 240th Thaipusam celebration at the temple.
He also announced a RM50,000 allocation to the Ayira Vaisiyar Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple for its welfare and charitable initiatives.
