US president Donald Trump threatens legal action against comedian Trevor Noah for a joke linking him to Jeffrey Epstein’s island.
WASHINGTON: Donald Trump threatened legal action on Monday against the host of the 68th Grammy Awards over a joke linking the US president to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Host Trevor Noah made the comment while congratulating Billie Eilish on her Song of the Year win.
“Wow. That’s a Grammy that every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah quipped.
He then added: “Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.” Trump responded on his Truth Social platform, first calling the awards “the WORST and virtually unwatchable.”
“I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory, statement, have never been accused of being there,” Trump asserted.
He branded South African comedian Noah a “total loser” who needs to “get his facts straight.”
“I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C. … Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!” Trump added.
Trump has given varying accounts of why he fell out with Epstein, with whom he once moved in similar social circles.
He has also fought for months to prevent the release of documents about the disgraced financier.
More than three million pages were released recently, mentioning numerous powerful figures including Trump himself, Bill Clinton and Elon Musk.
