Selangor police bust online syndicate targeting foreign victims

Selangor police dismantle online fraud syndicate offering part-time jobs and stock investments, arresting 20 suspects in raids across three locations

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have dismantled an online fraud syndicate that offered part-time work and stock investments to victims abroad.

The arrests were made during coordinated raids on three premises in Kajang, Seri Kembangan and Puchong last month.

A total of 20 individuals aged between 25 and 36, including one Malaysian, were detained in the operation.

Police also seized equipment suspected of being used in the activities, estimated to be worth RM85,000.

The seized items included 42 mobile phones, 20 computers, four mobile WiFi units, two laptops, two modems and one router.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the syndicate’s modus operandi was to offer part-time jobs, stock investments and income generation opportunities via digital platforms.

“The syndicate members acted as operators who would contact victims through social media applications and websites to convince them to make investments or join job offers,” he said.

Victims were then instructed to make certain payments.

In the first raid on 23 January in Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, police arrested six individuals.

This syndicate, active since December 2025, targeted Australian and Italian nationals with online part-time job offers.

In a second raid on 26 January in Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, nine foreign men aged 27 to 35 were arrested.

That syndicate is believed to have been active since November 2025, targeting Chinese nationals through online stock investments.

A third raid on 28 January in Bandar Puteri, Puchong led to the arrest of five foreigners.

That group had operated since December, targeting Pakistani nationals with part-time job offers on TikTok.

All cases are being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120B of the Penal Code.

“For the case in Bandar Sungai Long, all suspects have been charged under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code and fined RM2,500 each,” Shazeli said.

The other detainees have been remanded for between five and seven days.

He added that the suspects had no criminal records and tested negative for drugs.
