The remand for nine Selangor FC fans extended as police investigate a flare incident, drawing condemnation from the Sultan of Selangor.
KUALA TERENGGANU: The remand order for nine Selangor FC fans, suspected of involvement in a flare-lighting incident, has been extended for another day.
Magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Sharifuddin issued the order, which will last until tomorrow.
The suspects were initially remanded for three days starting February 2.
The extension allows police to continue investigations under the Explosives Act 1957 and for obstructing public servants under the Penal Code.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin stated that 33 fans were originally detained.
The arrests were for drug possession, testing positive for drugs, and obstructing officers during the commotion.
The incident occurred at the Drawbridge around 6.30 pm last Sunday.
It took place several hours before the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, expressed deep regret and disappointment over the event.
As the patron of Selangor FC, His Highness also disapproves of gangsterism and hooliganism among football supporters.
A statement from Istana Alam Shah said the Sultan wants police to find the incident’s mastermind.
He stated that those found guilty should receive the maximum punishment under the law.
