Police arrest 10 men following a violent clash at a Taman Beringin cafe, with one victim injured after being struck with a motorcycle padlock
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained 10 local men following a violent altercation at a cafe in Taman Beringin.
The incident, reported just after midnight, escalated from an argument into a physical assault involving dangerous weapons.
Sentul District Police Chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari (pic) stated the trouble began around 11:10 pm.
A 33-year-old catering worker was relaxing with friends when a group of allegedly intoxicated men became aggressive.
The situation quickly escalated, with the complainant claiming the group attacked them using motorcycle padlocks and helmets.
As a result, the catering worker sustained injuries to his head.
Preliminary investigations suggest the riot was sparked by a claim that a young boy had been slapped earlier.
The boy was reportedly the nephew of one of the suspects involved in the brawl.
This accusation drew seven to eight individuals from both sides into the violent confrontation.
Police have since rounded up the suspects, aged between 28 and 41.
All detainees possess prior criminal records for offences or drug involvement.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon.
The 10 men have been remanded for up to three days as the investigation continues.
