Mohd Ismail sworn in as Lamag assemblyman in Sabah

New Lamag assemblyman Mohd Ismail Ayob takes oath after winning by-election with a 5,681-vote majority for Barisan Nasional.

KOTA KINABALU: Newly elected Lamag assemblyman Mohd Ismail Ayob was sworn in as a member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly today.

He took his oath before Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya.

The 44-year-old, better known as Miha, won the Lamag state by-election on Jan 24 under the Barisan Nasional (BN) banner.

He secured a majority of 5,681 votes after garnering 7,269 votes.

His opponent, Parti Warisan candidate Mazliwati Abdul Malek, received 1,588 votes.

Mohd Ismail had previously contested the Lamag seat as an Independent candidate.

In the last Sabah state election, he emerged as the strongest challenger, polling 3,755 votes.

He finished just 153 votes behind the then incumbent, the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who obtained 3,908 votes.

The Lamag by-election was held simultaneously with the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election.

That seat was also won by BN through Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar.

Both by-elections were called following the death of Bung Moktar on Dec 5 last year.
