Former political secretary, wife remanded in RM3 million graft probe

A former political secretary and his wife are held for five days as MACC investigates alleged bribes linked to a Melaka sea reclamation project.

PUTRAJAYA: A former political secretary to an ex-Melaka chief minister and his wife have been remanded for five days.

The order was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah following their arrest yesterday afternoon at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here.

The couple is suspected of soliciting and accepting approximately RM3 million in bribes.

The money was allegedly in exchange for facilitating a company’s appointment as the concessionaire for a sea reclamation project in Melaka.

Preliminary investigations indicate the offence was believed to have been committed between February and November 2021. The suspect involved holds the title Datuk Wira.

It was also revealed that the bribe money was allegedly used to purchase a condominium unit in the Klang Valley.
