A suspended female soldier and three others plead not guilty to cheating a fellow soldier in a non-existent perfume investment scheme.
KUALA LUMPUR: Four individuals, including a suspended female soldier, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of cheating involving a non-existent perfume investment scheme that allegedly defrauded a fellow soldier of RM38,400 two months ago.
The soldier, Puteri Alisa Nabila Muhammad Razali, 23, who is currently suspended from duty, and three employees of a perfume shop – Mohammad Nazirul Azri Fairus, 29, Mariam Najwa Mahadi, 27, and Khor Leong Weong, 48- entered their pleas before Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan.
They are jointly charged with cheating Muhammad Adam Haikal Abdul Rahman, 20, by deceiving him into participating in a non-existent perfume investment. This deception induced the victim to transfer RM38,400 into a bank account belonging to Mariam Najwa – a transfer he would not have made had he not been deceived.
The offence allegedly took place at a restaurant in Sentul on May 2.
They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries an imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, whipping, and a possible fine upon conviction.
The court allowed Puteri Alisa Nabila bail of RM14,000, while bail for Mohammad Nazirul, Mariam Najwa and Khor were set at RM7,000 each.
The magistrate also ordered all four accused to surrender their passports to the court and fixed Aug 21 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Muhammad Naqib Aiman Mohd Faizal represented all the accused.
