Kelantan sets zakat fitrah rate at RM10 for Ramadan 1447H

The Kelantan Islamic council has set the zakat fitrah rate at RM10, with an option to pay RM22, while also announcing the wealth zakat nisab threshold.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has announced the zakat fitrah rate for Ramadan 1447H is RM10 per person.

However, individuals are encouraged to pay RM22 if they wish to base their contribution on the price of commonly consumed rice.

The amounts for both zakat fitrah and zakat harta (wealth zakat) were set with the consent of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V.

This consent is provided for under Article 6(1) of the Kelantan state constitution.

The nisab, or minimum threshold, for wealth zakat has been set at RM37,401.

This applies to assets held between Ramadan 1447H and the upcoming Ramadan 1448H.

Payments can be made via Baitulmal counters at city and district mosques.

Contributions can also be processed through the MAIK portal at zakat.e-maik.my.

“MAIK hopes for cooperation from all parties to take note of this decree,” said MAIK president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz.

He urged the community to enliven Ramadan with righteous deeds and the responsibility of paying zakat.
