“How did a bazaar suddenly appear in front of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad at night?”
A viral video of food vendors in front of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad has sparked outrage online, with many calling on Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to take immediate action.
In the video, vendors could be seen selling drinks, fried chicken, and other street food.
The issue was raised by Threads user @hazwanhfiz, who questioned how these vendors were suddenly allowed to operate in front of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

“The view and the building are already beautiful, but now it’s being disturbed by businesses like this.
“Don’t let this start and become a habit. Stop it before it spreads. DBKL, please monitor.”
In the comments, he added that one cup of drink cost RM7 and urged authorities to take action.
The posts quickly gained traction, with many echoing concerns about aesthetics, hygiene and enforcement — especially given the building’s recent restoration.
One commenter, @iahmat, wrote:
“DBKL needs to act on this immediately. Sultan Abdul Samad just reopened after 20 years of waiting, and now illegal vendors are already setting up? This can’t be allowed to become normal.
“The building and its surroundings are finally restored and beautiful — don’t let unregulated stalls destroy that. Beyond aesthetics, there are real concerns about cleanliness, waste management, and hygiene when vendors operate without proper oversight.”
Another user tagged Federal Territories Minister Minister Hannah Yeoh and DBKL, saying:
“@hannahyeoh & DBKL please don’t tarnish the image of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad with stalls like this… In the middle of KL, in front of an iconic building!!! Is there no common sense?? Chase all these vendors away immediately!!!”
The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad reopened to the public on Sunday (Feb 1), with Block 1 of the iconic building now accessible after roughly a year of conservation and restoration work.
