Flood-affected FAMA contract farmers in Kedah, Perak and Sabah urged to submit reports for immediate assistance with damaged equipment.
GOPENG: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has urged contract farmers under the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority affected by recent floods to promptly submit reports for immediate aid.
Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak stated that assistance will be determined based on FAMA assessments using farmer-submitted reports.
He confirmed that aid will primarily focus on replacing damaged business items or equipment caused by flooding.
Affected areas identified so far include Kedah, parts of Perak, and Sabah according to the ministry official.

FAMA will continue monitoring the situation and has urged affected farmers to report quickly to expedite the aid process.
Isham revealed there are currently over 6,000 contract farmers nationwide under FAMA’s supervision.
These farmers operate across various sectors including vegetables, fruits, cash crops, and livestock.

The secretary-general noted that over 90% of these contract farmers are youth challenging perceptions about young people’s interest in agriculture.
He attributed this trend to the lucrative income opportunities available in the agricultural sector.
The average age of these young contract farmers falls between 30 and 40 years old.

Through FAMA’s contract farming scheme participants are assured that their produce will be purchased and marketed by the authority.
