A woman and her teenage son died in a three-vehicle collision on Jalan Johor Bahru–Ayer Hitam, with three others injured in the accident.

JOHOR BAHRU: A mother and her son were killed while three others sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at KM65 of Jalan Johor Bahru–Ayer Hitam near Simpang Renggam.

Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed the accident occurred around 5.30 pm and involved a Perodua Kancil car, a Mazda factory van and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive.

Initial investigations revealed that a 51-year-old woman was driving her two sons aged 15 and nine from Simpang Renggam towards Kampung Bukit Kenangan in a Perodua Kancil.

The woman had stopped her vehicle to turn right into a junction when the factory van travelling in the same direction crashed into the Kancil’s rear.

This impact caused the Kancil to veer into the opposite lane where it was struck by an oncoming Toyota Hilux.

The factory van subsequently collided with the Toyota Hilux in the chain-reaction accident.

The woman and her 15-year-old son in the front passenger seat died at the scene from severe injuries.

The nine-year-old son in the back seat sustained serious injuries to his head and leg during the collision.

The 53-year-old van driver suffered injuries to his face, chest and right leg in the accident.

The 62-year-old Toyota Hilux driver sustained only minor injuries from the impact.

All injured victims were transported to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for medical treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving.

Operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Shoromi Salih from the Renggam Fire and Rescue Station confirmed the deceased were identified as Rulijah Ahmad and Salam Norazli.

A Ministry of Health medical officer pronounced both victims dead at the accident scene.

The injured nine-year-old boy was identified as Osama Norazli while the factory van driver was named as B Chandran. – Bernama
