Taiyo Furusato clinched his first Moto3 victory at the Malaysia GP, while Malaysian debutant Hakim Danish retired due to technical issues.

SEPANG: Honda Team Asia rider Taiyo Furusato secured his maiden Moto3 victory by dominating the 2025 Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit today.

Starting from second on the grid, the Japanese rider swiftly overtook Leopard Racing’s David Almansa and maintained his composure to win comfortably.

Furusato, who made his Moto3 debut in 2022, crossed the finish line in 22 minutes 03.888 seconds.

Angel Piqueras of FRINSA-MT Helmets-MSI finished 2.259 seconds behind in second place.

Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez completed the podium in third position, 2.625 seconds behind the winner.

Meanwhile, Malaysian debutant Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli suffered a disappointing retirement due to technical issues.

Hakim Danish, who started 12th on the grid, was running in 11th place when the bike problem occurred during lap five.

The main race was delayed for almost two hours following a crash involving newly-crowned world champion Jose Antonio Rueda and Noah Dettwiler.

The incident occurred during the sighting lap when Rueda of Red Bull KTM Ajo collided into the back of CIP Green Power rider Dettwiler shortly after Turn 3.

Race officials immediately waved the red flag following the collision at approximately 11.45 am.

Both riders were conscious following the crash and were airlifted to a local hospital for further treatment, according to the race medical director.

The Moto3 race was subsequently shortened to 10 laps from the original 15 due to the incident. – Bernama
