More than 212,000 taxpayers have submitted over one billion e-invoice transactions, aiding the fight against tax leakage and business digitisation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s electronic invoicing system has recorded over one billion transactions submitted by 212,543 taxpayers.

Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said the data provides a clearer picture for addressing tax non-compliance and revenue leakage.

He stated the system also helps companies digitise their businesses.

Liew was responding to a parliamentary question on transaction data received since the system’s implementation began.

The government has twice raised the annual sales threshold for e-invoice exemptions.

It was increased from RM150,000 to RM500,000 in June 2025, and then to RM1 million last December.

This phased approach exempts over one million taxpayers, including hawkers and small traders.

Liew outlined two key measures to assist SMEs with compliance costs.

A 12-month transition period from January to December 2026 allows for consolidated e-invoices with no penalties.

The government also introduced the free MyInvois digital Point-of-Sale platform.

This platform is accessible for businesses with annual revenues of up to RM5 million.

The Inland Revenue Board has conducted over 2,500 briefing and engagement sessions nationwide.

Liew said this support aims to improve understanding and facilitate e-invoicing implementation.
