PKR assemblyman Kumaresan urges Indian voters in Johor to choose PH based on record, not MIC’s rhetoric.

PETALING JAYA: The Johor state election, tomorrow, offers the Indian community a chance to vote based on track record and future direction, rather than the political rhetoric that surfaces only during election season, says PKR leader A. Kumaresan.

In a statement, today, Kumaresan — the Penang state assemblyman for Batu Uban and a member of PKR’s central leadership council — argued that MIC has lost the credibility to claim it is the sole champion of Malaysian Indians. He pointed to the party’s inconsistency in recent months, when it floated leaving Barisan Nasional (BN) to align with Perikatan Nasional (PN), only to reverse course and return to supporting BN.

“This clearly shows that their political calculations prioritise party survival over the interests of the Indian community,” he said, adding that MIC’s willingness to even consider cooperating with PN — apparently driven by dissatisfaction over its standing within BN — proved that questions of principle and public mandate could be set aside for political convenience.

Kumaresan noted that Indian voters have been gradually withdrawing support from MIC since the 2008 general election, as the electorate grew increasingly aware that sentiment-based politics is no longer sufficient. What is needed instead, he said, is leadership capable of delivering real policies, opportunities, and solutions to the community’s actual challenges.

He observed that since campaigning for the Johor election began, MIC has focused more on attacking Pakatan Harapan (PH) than articulating any fresh offer to Indian voters, calling the party’s claim to be the community’s sole advocate detached from reality.

Kumaresan credited the MADANI government with rolling out various initiatives to uplift the Indian community across education, human capital development, skills training, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and welfare. He said PH’s approach has been to champion all Malaysians regardless of race, while ensuring no community is left behind.

He urged Indian voters in Johor to weigh performance record, political stability, and a coalition’s capacity to govern both state and country, arguing that the community’s future should not rest with a party that shifts its position according to short-term political interest.

“On July 11, let us come together to give Pakatan Harapan the mandate for a stable, principled government that truly works for all the people of Johor,” Kumaresan added.
