The government allocated RM20.33 million to fully resurface Federal Road FT1157 near Felda Nenering, improving connectivity for border residents.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM20.33 million from the Finance Ministry’s special fund for Felda areas to upgrade Federal Road FT1157 near Felda Nenering in Pengkalan Hulu, Gerik.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed the road is now fully resurfaced, improving connectivity for residents in border areas and Felda settlements.

He provided this information during the Dewan Rakyat’s question-and-answer session in response to Manndzri Nasib’s supplementary question about special allocations and other Public Works Department projects in border areas.

Ahmad said other ongoing projects include upgrading the second Rantau Panjang-Sungai Golok bridge to four lanes and developing the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS Complex.

He also mentioned the FR21 Federal Road upgrade from Serian to Tebedu toward the Indonesian border and a new road from Kalabakan to the Malaysia-Indonesia border area known as Simanggaris.

Responding to Fathul Huzir Ayob’s question about installing additional solar-powered street lights along FT1157, Ahmad said the Works Ministry will review a proposal for 30 additional solar lights in 2026.

The RM300,000 project is subject to budget approval, while repair works worth RM150,000 on the existing lighting system were completed on June 30.

Ahmad emphasised the ministry’s strong focus on road safety through infrastructure upgrades, including lighting installations at high-risk areas nationwide.

He revealed that 50 such locations have been implemented at RM5.5 million, with RM24.95 million allocated for 2025 to cover 258 more locations, including 26 sites in Perak worth RM2.6 million.

Regarding border road facilities, Ahmad explained these roads fall under two categories: those managed by the Works Ministry and those under the National Security Council through the Border Security and Development Programme.

He noted the National Security Council’s roads involve physical security initiatives, including the newly approved RM1.5 billion border security wall in Tumpat, Tanah Merah and Padang Besar areas. – Bernama
