Malaysia and South Korea strengthen ties on 65th anniversary

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and President Lee Jae Myung reaffirm commitment to deepen cooperation in trade, defence, and green technology.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and South Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations on the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The commitment followed a 15-minute bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.

Both leaders discussed initiatives to expand cooperation in trade, investment, defence, infrastructure and smart city development.

They also explored opportunities in emerging sectors such as green technology, artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

Anwar extended his best wishes to Lee on South Korea’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit 2025.

He expressed appreciation for South Korea’s continued support in driving sustainable growth for mutual benefit.

Earlier, Anwar and Lee co-chaired the 26th ASEAN-South Korea Summit attended by other ASEAN leaders.

Lee later participated in the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit with Japan and China to strengthen regional cooperation.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were held over three days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The event brought together more than 3,000 delegates and leaders from over 30 countries and international organisations.

It was held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” – Bernama
