THE national lawn bowls squad are targeting a top-three finish at the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, scheduled to take place at Bukit Kiara from November 4 to 8.
Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz said to achieve this mission, the national squad must secure at least one gold medal at the championship.
He explained that every medal won will contribute points, with a gold earning 250 points, silver 175 and bronze 125.
Awalan did not specify any particular event in which Malaysia must deliver the gold medal.
He believed placing such a specific target would put unnecessary pressure on the athletes involved.
Awalan stated he did not want the pressure to fall only on one individual or group.
He added that by setting an overall target, the pressure will be shared equally among the entire team.
Malaysia will be represented by Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple, Muhammad Soufi Rusli, Emma Firyana Saroji, and Nurul Alyani Jamil.
A total of seven categories will be contested, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s pairs, para men’s and women’s singles, and para mixed. – Bernama
