PUTRAJAYA: Collaboration between Malaysian and Timorese news agencies will serve as a vital bridge for strengthening diplomatic relations between both nations.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated this cooperation was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed last Saturday.
He explained this partnership would enable citizens of both countries to better understand each other and stay updated on mutual developments.
“We see cooperation between Bernama and RTM with Timor-Leste’s RTTL and TATOLI as a bridge for hearing Timorese stories while they learn about Malaysia,” Fahmi told Bernama and RTM after his ministry’s monthly assembly.
He expressed confidence this initiative would mark the beginning of enhanced diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Timor-Leste.
The minister was accompanied by Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and senior media department officials.
Malaysia and Timor-Leste signed two separate memoranda of understanding covering telecommunications and media cooperation.
The telecommunications MoU was signed between Fahmi and Timor-Leste’s Minister of Transport and Communications Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu.
The information and media development MoU was signed with Timor-Leste’s State Secretary for Social Communication Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes.
Timor-Leste was officially admitted as ASEAN’s eleventh member state during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. – Bernama
