PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Works (KKR), via its agency, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), plans to deploy workers to Nagasaki, Japan, in the fourth quarter of 2024, as part of a partnership focusing on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the initial target involves groups of five to ten individuals, depending on demand.
In a statement today, he disclosed that efforts are underway with relevant institutions and agencies in Nagasaki, and the relevant programme is expected to be finalised through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) slated for signing later this year.
“CIDB, and Nagasaki agencies and skills education institutions will cooperate in technical expertise exchange and training, particularly in the construction and maritime sectors,“ said Nanta.
Exchange of technology will also be enhanced, focusing on the utilisation of modern technology in welding work and heavy machinery operation, he added.
Nanta, currently on a working visit to Nagasaki, stated that a delegation comprising KKR, CIDB, the Public Works Department, and the Malaysian Highway Authority met with Nagasaki Prefecture Governor Dr. Oishi Kengo.
The meeting stemmed from CIDB’s visit to Japan last year, which aimed to explore opportunities for sending TVET trainees to Nagasaki to enhance their expertise, aligning with the MADANI government’s dedication to youth development and exchange of knowledge.
“In our talk with Dr. Oishi yesterday, we agreed that this cooperation could bring lots of advantages. It will help train skilled workers and improve our workforce.
“Plus, it’s a great way for both countries to share skills and technology, making our relationship stronger. This will benefit both Malaysia and Japan economically and help advance TVET worldwide,“ explained Nanta.
Nanta further emphasised KKR’s commitment, through CIDB, to bolster TVET, with a particular focus on engaging the younger demographic to align with CIDB’s government-mandated role in advancing the construction sector, ensuring the creation of skilled and competent construction workers.
