Kuala Lumpur police arrest two suspects and seize 18.5kg of cannabis worth over half a million ringgit in a major drug bust.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of narcotics valued at over half a million ringgit.

The raid took place at a condominium parking area along Jalan Klang Lama on Saturday afternoon.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest of a 47-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman by a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

Officers discovered 18.5 kilogrammes of suspected dried cannabis flowers inside a Proton Exora driven by the suspects.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of RM553,500.

Preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate had been active since August.

They used the condominium’s parking area as a cover for drug transactions to avoid police detection.

The syndicate operated within the Klang Valley area.

The confiscated cannabis could supply approximately 37,000 drug users.

Initial urine screenings showed both suspects tested negative for drugs.

The male suspect has two prior criminal records under the Penal Code and Minor Offences Act.

Both individuals have been remanded for six days until October 31.

They are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

This section carries the death penalty or life imprisonment plus caning upon conviction.

Police also confiscated RM250 in cash under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

Datuk Fadil urged the public to report drug trafficking activities to the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222. – Bernama
