Malaysia’s 2026 Japan Open campaign ended after mixed and men’s doubles pairs lost their semi-final matches in Tokyo on Friday.
MALAYSIA’S 2026 Japan Open campaign officially ended today after mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin and men’s doubles duo Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani lost their semi-final matches in Tokyo.
In the mixed doubles category, unseeded pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin’s “giant-killing” run finally was stopped by the experienced Hong Kong pair, Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet, and the Malaysians lost 17-21, 21-18, 21-15 in a grueling 69-minute encounter.
The pair can hold their heads up high even with the defeat as their performance in the championship shows that they are capable of competing against the world’s top ten pairs.
Meanwhile, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin were unable to overcome world number one pair Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea, even though they fought hard throughout the 58-minute match.
The Malaysians struggled to find their footing in the opening game, losing 12-21 but then they staged a brilliant comeback to win 21-11 to force the deciding game, which unfortunately was won by the South Koreans 21-13.
