A contractor lost RM1.2 million after being lured by a free stock investment class promoted on Facebook, with police warning the public to verify investments.
KUALA LUMPUR: A contractor in his 60s lost RM1.2 million after falling victim to a scam offering a free stock investment class promoted on Facebook.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa (pic) said the man was browsing Facebook on October 2, 2025, when he was attracted by the offer.
The victim clicked the provided link and was added to a WhatsApp group run by an unknown individual.
After several class sessions, an “investment guru” in the group offered members a new stock investment with guaranteed profits and loss compensation.
The interested victim then received a WhatsApp call from a woman instructing him to download an application to start investing.
Beginning November 27, 2025, the victim transferred money in stages to six different company accounts.
These accounts belonged to SCSS Pulse Trading, Bookmap If Sdn Bhd, Bookmap Tg Sdn Bhd, AEP Top Ventures, Musi Luxhome Renovation (M) Sdn Bhd and Sac Global Sdn Bhd.
In January 2026, the victim tried to withdraw RM600,000 after his application showed a profit.
He was first asked to pay a 10% commission, and after paying, was told his withdrawal was blocked by Bank Negara Malaysia and he needed to pay RM168,000 in taxes.
The victim filed a police report on February 13, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
Rusdi advised the public to check the Semakmule portal before any transaction and refer to the CCID “Top Ten” scam list.
He stressed that legitimate investments will not ask individuals to transfer money to third-party company accounts via chat applications.
As of February 15, police have detected 10 companies involved in fraudulent activities linked to 81 reports in the Semakmule CCID database.
Sac Global Sdn Bhd was involved in 14 reports, while Menjaya Makmur Sdn Bhd was linked to 13 reports.
Data Innovations Sdn Bhd was named in 12 reports, and three SCSS-linked companies were involved in 11 reports each.
KK Solid Works Sdn Bhd, AEP Global Enterprise Sdn Bhd, and AEP Top Ventures were each linked to 11 reports, while JM Maju Construction Sdn Bhd was involved in nine reports.
