Anwar: Govt will strive to attract more investments

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim assured that he will continue to be responsible for the country and economic growth by always looking for opportunities to establish relationships with countries with potential to attract investments.

He said the government did not miss the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings either officially or separately with several countries while attending the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the United States (US) recently.

“We also use that space to hold bilateral meetings with many countries while waiting for our turn to continue the debate.

“We met with several large corporations including Google, Enovix, Microsoft, TikTok and TPG as mentioned by Invesment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and obtained investment commitments totalling RM63.02 billion,” said Anwar who is also Finance Minister during the Ministers’ Question Time at Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) who wanted to know what results benefited the country during his visit to the APEC conference which officially started from Nov 14 to 17.

He said he was aware that some had expressed concern that Malaysia’s firm stance in facing the United States and several European countries regarding the Palestine issue would affect the economic position.

“Of course it is our responsibility to continue to monitor but for now, I would like to explain and assure that after meeting some of the main US investors, it is apparent that their priority is based on stable political situation, clear economic policy and the method of speeding up the approval process that is now under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA),” he said. – Bernama
