New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon leaves Malaysia after attending ASEAN summit, reaffirming trade and halal cooperation commitments.

SEPANG: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his wife Amanda Luxon have departed for home following their participation in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur.

Their special aircraft lifted off from the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10.20 pm after an official send-off ceremony.

The farewell featured a red-carpet reception and a guard of honour provided by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said was present at the airport to bid farewell to the New Zealand leader and his delegation.

During his visit, Malaysia and New Zealand reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the halal sector.

Both nations also committed to concluding the review of the Malaysia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement by the end of this year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Luxon expressed this shared goal during a bilateral meeting held alongside the summit.

New Zealand further pledged to strengthen its engagement with ASEAN under the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
