MAHB accountable for Aerotrain disruptions due to technical issues

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says MAHB is accountable for Aerotrain service disruptions caused by technical issues at KLIA.

PUTRAJAYA: The frequency of Aerotrain service disruptions at Kuala Lumpur International Airport is unacceptable according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd will be held accountable for any disruptions found to be caused by technical issues.

Loke stated that MAHB as the concession holder is responsible for projects carried out by its appointed contractors Alstom and IJM-PESTEC Joint Venture.

He emphasised the need to ensure more reliable service despite the system being new.

“We are still not satisfied that there have been so many disruptions in four months for a new system,” he said at a press conference after chairing the National Logistics Task Force meeting.

Loke noted that some disruptions resulted from technical errors that should not have occurred.

“That’s what we need to take action on,” he added.

Any punitive action will only be taken after investigations into each Aerotrain service disruption incident are completed.

Loke had instructed the Land Public Transport Agency to open an investigation into MAHB following the latest disruption earlier that week.

The operator’s licence issued to MAHB requires the company to ensure satisfactory Aerotrain service levels for users.

Violating licence terms under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 can result in fines up to RM250,000 for each offence.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is also investigating potential corruption or misappropriation in the Aerotrain project implementation. – Bernama
