Visitors compare ASEAN Dome at KLCC to lush forest experience

Visitors describe the ASEAN Dome at KLCC as an immersive forest experience with LED rainforest visuals and nature sounds

KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to the ASEAN Legacy Tunnel and River of Progress, known as the ASEAN Dome at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, have compared their experience to stepping into the heart of a forest.

The 10-metre-high and 20-metre-wide dome previously served as the official welcome gateway for world leaders during last week’s 47th ASEAN Summit.

It is now open to the public for a three-day period that started yesterday.

A refreshing breeze and melodic bird chirping greet visitors as they step inside the dome.

LED screens on the walls display tropical rainforest panoramas, waterfalls, and native flora for a tranquil and immersive natural setting.

Visitor Zamzila Ahmad Shafandi, 52, said the dome experience brought an indescribable sense of tranquillity.

“The flora is beautiful, there’s a waterfall, and it feels refreshing,” she told Bernama today.

She added that netizens were correct in saying Malaysia captured the ASEAN concept reflecting the lush forests of member countries.

“The tranquillity felt is as if we were in a forest, surrounded by lush greenery and adorned with vibrant flowers.”

Zamzila also expressed hope that the structure could become a permanent attraction in public spaces like shopping malls.

Another visitor, Desnely Tan, 56, praised the dome’s seamless blend of technology and nature.

“I was most impressed seeing the Dome set against the backdrop of the Petronas Twin Towers,” she said.

She managed to take stunning photos and found the concept and design captivating.

Desnely noted the word “welcome” changes into the languages of ASEAN member states inside the dome.

“The combination of LED lights, bird sounds, and water features makes the atmosphere feel remarkably real,” she added.

She hopes the dome can become a permanent attraction for schoolchildren to visit and learn from.

Head of the ASEAN 2025 Main Logistics Secretariat Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the dome was designed as a symbol of the region’s environmental connection.

He stated it represents the historical significance of ASEAN’s river civilisations.

The team used 80 LED panels to project waterfall visuals and bring this vision to life.

“We want to showcase ASEAN’s journey from its inception, highlighting its evolution through different eras and challenges,” he told Bernama.

He explained the modern design saves time and space while allowing daily content updates.

This approach showcases ASEAN’s continuous development leading up to Malaysia’s chairmanship.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings were held from October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur.

This gathering was the largest in the summit’s history since its inaugural session in 1976. – Bernama
