Health Minister urges public to seek medical treatment for influenza symptoms as no self-test kits are approved for use in Malaysia.
PUTRAJAYA: Individuals experiencing influenza symptoms should seek immediate medical attention at clinics or hospitals since no self-test kits for the disease have been approved for public use.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasised that patients must undergo proper examination and receive treatment from qualified medical professionals.
“If you have symptoms, I urge you to seek medical care immediately,” he told reporters after opening the 2nd National Conference for Thalassemia Patients and Caregivers 2025.
Dr Dzulkefly added that people should not purchase or use influenza test kits because they are unnecessary and unapproved.
“We do not have a self-testing policy,” he stated clearly regarding the absence of approved self-test kits for influenza.
Responding to claims about illegal sales of influenza test kits, Dr Dzulkefly said he would investigate the matter and discuss it with ministry officials.
“This issue is important because no party should take advantage of selling fake or unapproved kits,” he affirmed.
The Health Minister promised definite follow-up action to address the reported illegal sales of influenza test kits.
Yesterday, the Medical Devices Authority issued an advisory warning healthcare professionals against purchasing influenza test kits from e-commerce platforms.
The MDA stated that even products appearing legitimate or registered on online platforms should not be trusted for influenza testing.
According to the authority, influenza test kits should only be obtained from licensed pharmacies or through official online platforms of registered manufacturers.
This ensures compliance with current safety and regulatory standards for medical devices in Malaysia. – Bernama
