Man posing as cop to demand RM300 bribe arrested in Ipoh

Police arrest man for impersonating a traffic officer and demanding RM300 bribe from motorcyclist in Ipoh, suspect remanded for four days.

IPOH: Police have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a police officer in front of a restaurant in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru, Bercham.

Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident, which went viral on social media, depicted the suspect posing as traffic police personnel.

The suspect allegedly stopped a motorcyclist for modifying his motorcycle and demanded RM300 in cash as a bribe to avoid a summons.

The victim became suspicious and contacted a friend who then notified the police about the impersonation.

Police arrested the suspect along with several items used for impersonating a police officer.

The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code.

Section 170 of the Penal Code addresses the offence of impersonating a public servant. – Bernama
