JC Chemical plans a used cooking oil processing plant in Malaysia to produce sustainable aviation fuel, supporting national energy transition goals.

KUALA LUMPUR: South Korean renewable energy company JC Chemical Co Ltd has expressed interest in establishing a plant in Malaysia to process refined used cooking oil for sustainable aviation fuel production.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the project aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and New Industrial Master Plan 2030.

“This project will also position Malaysia as a regional hub for SAF feedstock production, thereby strengthening the nation’s biofuel value chain,” he stated on social media platform X.

Malaysia is expected to begin domestic SAF production before the end of 2025 through Ecoceres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd’s commercial operations in Tanjung Langsat, Johor.

The government has streamlined licensing under the Malaysian Biofuel Industry Act 2007 to facilitate SAF production plant development.
