The Asian Football Confederation will refer the Football Association of Malaysia’s eligibility case to its disciplinary committee following a CAS ruling that reduced player sanctions.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has taken note of a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision concerning the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and several national players.
The AFC confirmed in a statement that the matter will now be referred to its Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for further consideration.
The governing body stated it does not comment on ongoing investigations involving its disciplinary committee.
This follows a CAS ruling yesterday that partially upheld an appeal by seven players against FIFA sanctions for falsifying naturalisation and eligibility documents.
The CAS Panel reduced the players’ bans to 12 months from official matches only, not from all football-related activities.
It upheld the CHF 350,000 (approximately RM1.8 million) fine imposed on FAM, deeming it justified and proportionate.
The seven players involved are Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Manchuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel.
