Flash flood in Gua Musang forces 17 people to evacuate to relief centre

A relief centre opened in Gua Musang after flash floods hit several residential areas and main roads, forcing 17 people from 11 families to evacuate.

GUA MUSANG: A relief centre was opened in the district last night to accommodate flash flood victims following continuous heavy rain for more than three hours.

A total of 17 victims from 11 families in Felda Chiku 5 were evacuated to the centre after their houses were flooded.

Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the heavy rain that began at about 7 pm also caused several residential areas and main roads to be flooded.

The affected roads include Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing near the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters and Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai at the Bendahara Traffic Light Intersection.

He confirmed the residential areas hit by flash floods are at Kesedar Paloh 1, Paloh 3, Chalil, Felda Chiku 3 and Felda Chiku 5.

As of this morning, the rain has stopped and the situation is reported to be improving. – Bernama
