The Works Ministry has activated its disaster operations room to monitor infrastructure damage during the Northeast Monsoon period.

PUTRAJAYA: The Works Ministry is maintaining full preparedness for disasters during the Northeast Monsoon period, particularly regarding damage to road and bridge infrastructure nationwide.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed the recent activation of the disaster operations room under the Public Works Department to monitor the current situation in near real-time across all states.

He explained that significant infrastructure damage typically occurs during the monsoon season, including damaged roads, collapsed bridges and affected slopes.

The ministry has established comprehensive action plans and monitoring teams that operate 24 hours daily to address these challenges.

Preparations are being coordinated at both state and district levels through collaboration with various government agencies.

Additional assets such as Bailey bridges and support equipment have been provisioned for urgent repair work when needed.

The ministry has increased its inventory of temporary bridges and other essential equipment to ensure rapid restoration of disrupted routes.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare is implementing various measures to ensure smooth disaster management and protect victim welfare.

Basic necessities including food, clothing, mats, blankets and baby equipment have been stocked at all state disaster depots and stores.

Temporary relief centres nationwide are being monitored and maintained in a state of preparedness for immediate activation.

The department has conducted preparedness training and disaster management simulations with rescue agencies and local authorities.

Welfare volunteers including the SUKARELA team and Skuad Prihatin are being coordinated for deployment to affected locations.

The JKM Disaster Information Application serves as the official digital platform for public access to disaster information online.

Disaster victims can register themselves before, during and after disasters through the application.

Users can update personal and family information while locating nearby temporary relief centres.

The application also facilitates check-in and check-out procedures at relief centres.

The Department of Social Welfare reminds the public to remain vigilant about weather warnings and comply with authority instructions. – Bernama
