England’s Gus Atkinson ruled out of final Ashes Test with hamstring injury

England fast bowler Gus Atkinson is out of the fifth Ashes Test with a hamstring injury, becoming the third England quick sidelined during the series

ENGLAND pace bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia due to a hamstring injury.

The Surrey right-armer became the third England fast bowler to be sent home early from the tour after sustaining the injury on day two of the fourth Test.

“Gus Atkinson has been ruled out for the remainder of the Ashes tour after scans confirmed he has sustained a left hamstring injury,” the England Cricket Board stated.

No replacement player will be called up for the Sydney Test, creating an opportunity for squad members Matthew Potts or Matthew Fisher to make their series debut.

Atkinson joins Mark Wood and Jofra Archer on the injured list, leaving Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Ben Stokes to lead England’s bowling attack.

England trail the series 3-1 ahead of the final Test in Sydney starting on Sunday.

The tourists suffered heavy defeats in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide before securing a four-wicket victory in the fourth Test in Melbourne.
