GEORGE TOWN, Jan 15: A lawyer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving more than RM1 million belonging to a company over a land purchase eight years ago.
Zainal Fikri Ahmad, 57, made the plea before Judge Norsalha Hamzah.
According to the charge, Zainal Fikri, as an agent of a legal firm Messrs. Zainal & Badrol, which was entrusted with RM1,370,865.18, which was part of the money for the purchase of land belonging to JKP Sdn Bhd, was alleged to have used the money for his personal interests and advantage.
He was charged with committing the offence in the state between Jan 8 and Nov 22, 2013.
The charge, framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, provides a jail term for up to 20 years and whipping and fine, if convicted.
The court allowed Zainal Fikri bail of RM20,000 with one surety and set March 3 for mention.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Syafiq Nasrullah Salem Ali, while the accused was unrepresented.- Bernama
