Walk With Al-Sultan Abdullah honored Malaysia’s sports legends

The Sun Sport

Malaysia celebrated its sporting heritage and national unity through the “Walk With Al-Sultan Abdullah: The King of Sports” initiative held at Stadium Merdeka. The event was led by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Her Royal Highness the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Organised by Yayasan Al-Sultan Abdullah (YASA) with ShekhinahPR, the walk brought together over 150 guests, including Malaysia’s sporting legends and former national athletes.

Among those present were Datuk Leong Mun Yee, Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin, Shanti Govindasamy, Jagjit Singh, Datuk Santokh Singh, Datuk Soh Chin Ann, and Datuk Rashid Sidek. His Majesty also presented RM60,000 to Yayasan Kebajikan Atlet Kebangsaan (YAKEB) and RM40,000 to Persatuan Bekas Pemain Bola Sepak Negeri & Kebangsaan, reflecting his ongoing care for Malaysia’s sporting heroes. “This initiative is close to His Majesty’s heart, as it represents appreciation and gratitude for the athletes who have made Malaysia proud,” said a YASA representative.

We are grateful to Their Majesties for their presence, which made this day even more meaningful.” Bata Managing Director Rabi Hasnabi added, “We are honoured to support this royal initiative that celebrates Malaysia’s sporting heritage and shared values of unity and movement.”

The walk concluded with a Royal High Tea, where Their Majesties mingled with former athletes and expressed personal appreciation for their lifelong dedication. “It was a heartfelt moment for all of us,” said former diver Datuk Leong Mun Yee. “Walking alongside Their Majesties reminded us how much our contributions still matter.” Held at the iconic Stadium Merdeka, the event stood as a powerful reminder of Malaysia’s unity, well-being, and sporting excellence — a true celebration of pride and togetherness.
